"I am the fire of ambition; my armour its heart, my blade its soul."
- Anon.
Name: Ma Wen-Song (Shuoyun)
Age: 37
Gender: Male
Style: Original
Personality:
The majority of the time Shuoyun is a taciturn stoic man of cool resolve and few words, though every verbal utterance could be described as a gem. When he does find a matter of contention he never fails to become highly vocal and involved with the subject. In particular he has an intolerance for rudeness and inefficiency within the courts, being known for his short albeit non-violent temper. A lashing from his sharp tongue has often been more feared than a beating with the iron rod. Despite this, he is known to succumb easily to particular taunts, giving way to a far more unsheathed temperament, though this is usually only reserved for the battlefield. Other than this he has an utmost respect for authority and his superiors, loyalty being his one key virtue.
Weapon(s):
Twin blades of uneven length, but same width and decoration. The longer blade, which stands at 28’’ long including the hilt, is wielded in his left hand, whereas the shorter blade, 20’’ long, is often a secondary piece, but when used is appropriately placed in his right hand. Both are made of a blackened steel, with only one side sharpened and the other thickened for increased durability and defence. For what they lack in traditional beauty is made up with brutal efficiency and deftness.
Fixated to his steed is a medium length poleaxe, one that is modest in appearance and efficient in use. He reserves it purely for horseback combat, preferring to use his twin blades when grounded.
History:
Shuoyun had served the Han dynasty during its most tumultuous years, aiding the failing government as a local military governor, warding off the threat of bandits and foreign invaders. During his many different tenures he worked under a variety of great minds and strategic thinkers, and ever being the keen leaner, Wen-Song absorbed their wisdom like a sponge.
After the collapse of the Han an the resulting rebellions, the stable and loyal Shuoyun struggled to find his place with an increasingly chaotic world. Being pragamatic, he turned to the work of a mercenary, in the process honing his own battle prowess by quickly offing several bounty targets and bandit nuisances. One job in particular saw Shuoyun meet his sworn brother, Ma Wen-Wei, a brutish thug of a man, who’s hygiene was as questionable as his intellect. Nonetheless, Shuoyun quickly formed a bond with the rotund giant, sharing with him fond memories of a beloved empire, and a time of warmth and peace. Together, the brothers vowed to find their peace once more.
Today, the pair have separated in their search for a lord worthy enough to command them, and have sworn to return to one another when their first quest was complete. Undoubtedly the brash Wen-Wei was already at a disadvantage in finding a respectable lord, his large chops ever greased with ale and boar meat, closed long enough only to hide his repugnant breath and eardrum blowing belches. The job truly fell to Shuoyun, who’s intelligence, ambition, and stoic determination vaulted the pair forwards, ready to leap over any obstacles in their way.
